The autumn
is especially lonely in a mountain home
for the cries of deer
forever wake me
from my dreams.
~ Mibu no Tadamine
Dear Mibu,
It’s sad the deer
keep you sleepless
through the night
but to me
you’re just complaining
for I would hear that sound
till any dawn should care
to turn its fresh pink face
on me
and gladly
trade you
sirens screaming
for your temporary loss
of dreaming.
Sincerely,
a poet
A world of dreams
or the one you work so hard to dress for
in the mirror—
tell me, how much more solid
are its lines?
